INTRODUCTION
a. To the Holy Mass
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Good morning!
Welcome to Saint Dominic’s Parish Church for the holy mass celebration. This Sunday, August 11, 2019, we celebrate the feast of Saint Dominic de Guzman, Founder of the Order of Preachers, also known as the Dominicans. Saint Dominic is the Patron Saint of this Parish Church.
Dominic and his brothers started their mission of preaching the Gospel of Christ to the world since the thirteenth century. They have trodden all the paths of cities, big and small, of villages rich and poor, loudly proclaiming the Good News salvation to people of different cultural, political and religious traditions. Europe, Americas, and Asia joyfully listen to and embrace the liberating truth of Christ through their teaching. Việt Nam was so blessed with the coming of the first Dominican missionaries in the sixteenth century. It was thanks to the hard works of the Dominicans that the foundation of the Church in Việt Nam was so strongly built that bloody persecutions could by no way destroy the faith of the first Vietnamese Christians most of whom were poor and illiterate farmers. Dominicans, both laity and clergy, proudly bear witness to the faith in Christ side by side with the 118 holy martyrs in Việt Nam, canonized by Pope Saint John-Paul II in 1988.
We pray hard to God the Father, through the powerful intercession of Saint Dominic for the gift of unwavering faithfulness to our Christian commitment to serving the saving truth of Christ.

b. To the Readings
- First Reading: Is 6:1-8
The Prophet Isaiah was called by the Lord God to preach the divine message to the people who went astray so that they might come back to the right path of salvation. The prophet refused to go, excusing himself for not being worthy of such holy ministry. But God purified him and sent him to mission.
A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah,
- In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, with the train of his garment filling the temple. Seraphim were stationed above; each of them had six wings: with two they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they hovered. One cried out to the other: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts! All the earth is filled with his glory!” At the sound of that cry, the frame of the door shook and the house was filled with smoke. Then I said, “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, holding an ember which he had taken with tongs from the altar. He touched my mouth with it. “See,” he said, “now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” “Here I am,” I said; “send me!”

1Năm vua Út-di-gia-hu băng hà, tôi thấy Chúa Thượng ngự trên ngai rất cao; tà áo của Người bao phủ Đền Thờ.
2Phía bên trên Người, có các thần Xê-ra-phim đứng chầu. Mỗi vị có sáu cánh: hai cánh để che mặt, hai cánh để che chân và hai cánh để bay.
3Các vị ấy đối đáp tung hô:
“Thánh! Thánh! Chí Thánh!
ĐỨC CHÚA các đạo binh là Đấng Thánh!
Cả mặt đất rạng ngời vinh quang Chúa! “

6Một trong các thần Xê-ra-phim bay về phía tôi, tay cầm một hòn than hồng người đã dùng cặp mà gắp từ trên bàn thờ.7Người đưa hòn than ấy chạm vào miệng tôi và nói:
“Đây, cái này đã chạm đến môi ngươi,
ngươi đã được tha lỗi và xá tội.”
8Bấy giờ tôi nghe tiếng Chúa Thượng phán:
“Ta sẽ sai ai đây? Ai sẽ đi cho chúng ta? “
Tôi thưa: “Dạ, con đây, xin sai con đi.”

Those who listen to the Good News of Jesus Christ are responsible for their reaction to it. Salvation will come to willing hearers and doers of God’s saving message.
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles,
Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles. For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, "'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'" And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. And the word of the Lord was spreading throughout the whole region.

Bài Đọc II (Acts 13:46-49)
46Bấy giờ ông Phao-lô và ông Ba-na-ba mạnh dạn lên tiếng: “Anh em phải là những người đầu tiên được nghe công bố lời Thiên Chúa, nhưng vì anh em khước từ lời ấy, và tự coi mình không xứng đáng hưởng sự sống đời đời, thì đây chúng tôi quay về phía dân ngoại.47Vì Chúa truyền cho chúng tôi thế này: Ta sẽ đặt ngươi làm ánh sáng muôn dân, để ngươi đem ơn cứu độ đến tận cùng cõi đất.”

The preaching of the Gospel brings listeners to its very heart that is Jesus Christ Himself Who makes members of His mystical Body, the Church, of those who believe in Him.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew,
13 When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. 18 And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

- Prayer of the Faithful
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Enlightened by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and guided by the example of Saint Dominic, let us bring to God, our loving and caring Father, all our needs, confident that He will grant us His blessings, necessary for our salvation.
1. For Pope Francis and the pastors of the Church, may God strengthen them in their faithful commitment to serving the people of God with both fervent preaching and good example. Let us pray to the Lord.
2. For missionaries working for the building of God’s Kingdom, may God send the Holy Spirit to kindle in their heart the fire of love of the less fortunate. Let us pray to the Lord.
3. For us Christians, may the Gospel of Jesus Christ cleanse us from sin and turn us into effective instruments of peace and love. Let us pray to the Lord.
O God, you know even the hidden thoughts of our hearts, graciously listen to our prayers and grant us all that we need for our salvation and the common good of humanity. This we pray for in the Name of Jesus, your Son, our Lord and Savior.
