Second Sunday of Easter - Year C (Apr 28, 2019)

A. Introduction

a) To the Holy Mass

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Good morning!
Welcome to Saint Dominic’s Parish Church/ for the Sunday Holy Mass celebration. The Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ/ has brought to the whole humankind/ so great and profound a joy of new life and freedom from slavery to sin and death/ that the Liturgy of the Church has to dedicate seven consecutive Sundays/ to the celebration of this exceptional event of Christianity.
During this Eastertime, the First Readings taken from the Acts of the Apostles/ together with the Gospel Readings/ tell us about different experiences of those who met the Risen Lord and how their lives were definitely changed since. Taken from the Book of Revelation, the Second Readings, on their part, depict realities happening in the afterlife in terms of the new heaven and earth for those believers in the victory of the Lamb—a liturgical reference to Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world.
Today, the second Sunday of Easter, is dedicated to the Divine Mercy. We recognize in the Suffering, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Holy Face of the Merciful God, Who always loves us, forgives us saves and forgives us.
We pray hard in this weekly celebration of the Lord’s Resurrection/ which we call Sunday Holy Mass/ for the blessing of encounter with the Risen Lord/ Who is always living and present/ in His Word and especially in the Sacrament of His Body and Blood/ in order that we, too, may be transformed into new creation by His saving power.
Please all stand for the entrance hymn.

HOMILY FOR EASTER SUNDAY, YEAR C (APR 21, 2019)

What can we learn from the mystery of the Lord’s Resurrection?

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

As we celebrate Easter Sunday today, let us ask one another this very important question on the foundation of our Christian faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior: is there any difference between the mystery of the Resurrection of the Lord and the process of medical methods to bring back to life a person who was physically dead?    If “yes”, then what is the difference?

The life that we all live now is natural life, a life limited in time and space, affected by natural laws, common to all creatures on earth.

We were born, we have grown up, we are aging, and we will one day leave this natural life.  That is how we are conditioned by the rule of time.

About the time limit of human life, Sacred Scripture has something to teach us, mortal being:
“Our years end like a sigh.  Seventy is the sum of our yeas, or eighty if we are strong; most of them are sorrow and toil; they pass quickly, we are all but gone.”[1]

We are limited by space, too.  When we gather here to worship God in this church, we can by no means be present at the same time in our home, taking care of our family.

We need food and drink when we are hungry and thirsty.  We need to catch up with the demands of social relationships and environment living conditions.  In order to survive we have to spend much time and energy to satisfy all the needs of our natural life.  But we all know that we will soon come to the end of this life.

At the most profound bottom of our heart, however, we always nurture our strong desire for life eternal, a life that lasts forever.  This is by no means a vain aspiration, because it is no one other than God Himself Who, from the creation of the human person after His image has put this beautiful dream in our heart.  By so doing God has made a promise that, besides this natural life which we are enjoying in this world we will be given another life that is much more beautiful, much more happier, much more perfect, much more satisfactory, and that is, above all everlasting.

This life is the new life in full communion in love with God, modelled after the life of the Risen Lord, the life which all of us long for as we strongly and convincingly profess in the Creed: “We believe in the resurrection of the dead.”

Saint Paul teaches us of the many differences between the natural life and the life in the mystery of the resurrection:
“it is sown corruptible; it is raise incorruptible.  It is sown dishonorable; it is raised glorious.  It is sown weak; it is raised powerful.  It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body.  If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual one.”[2]

Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, sums up those differences in a simple teaching:
“at the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like the angels in heaven.”[3]

This New Life in communion with the Risen Lord we have received since we were baptized in our faith in the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  This New Life in the Mystery of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ we have been developing to perfection through an ongoing conversion, meaning to say a an unceasing going back to God.  Put this in Saint Paul’s words all we have to do is the following:
“I have been crucified with Christ ;yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me”.[4]

The great Apostle then concludes: “if we have died with Him we shall also live with Him; if we persevere we shall also reign with Him.”[5]

Easter Sunday - Year C (Apr 21, 2019)

FIRST READING: Acts 10:34A, 37-43

Peter proceeded to speak and said: "You know what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree. This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commissioned us to preach to the people and testify that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name."

BÀI ĐỌC I: Cv 10, 34a.37-43

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Ps 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-23

R. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.
R. Ðây là ngày Chúa đã lập ra, chúng ta hãy mừng rỡ hân hoan về ngày đó.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his mercy endures forever. Let the house of Israel say, “His mercy endures forever.” R.

“The right hand of the LORD has struck with power; the right hand of the LORD is exalted. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.” R.

R. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
R. Ôi Thiên Chúa! Ôi Thiên Chúa! Sao Chúa đã bỏ con?

All who see me scoff at me; they mock me with parted lips, they wag their heads: "He relied on the LORD; let him deliver him, let him rescue him, if he loves him." R.
Bao người thấy con đều mỉa mai con, họ bĩu môi, họ lắc đầu: "Hắn tin cậy Chúa, xin Ngài cứu hắn, xin Ngài giải gỡ hắn, nếu Ngài yêu thương". R.

Indeed, many dogs surround me, a pack of evildoers closes in upon me; They have pierced my hands and my feet; I can count all my bones. R.
Ðứng quanh con là đàn ưng khuyển, một lũ côn đồ bao bọc lấy con. Chân tay con chúng đều chọc thủng, con có thể đếm được mọi đốt xương con. R.

They divide my garments among them, and for my vesture they cast lots. But you, O LORD, be not far from me; O my help, hasten to aid me. R.

I will proclaim your name to my brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will praise you: "You who fear the LORD, praise him; all you descendants of Jacob, give glory to him; revere him, all you descendants of Israel!" R.

Fifth Sunday of Lent - Year C (Apr 7, 2019)

A. Introduction

a) To the Holy Mass

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Good morning!
Welcome to Saint Dominic’s Parish Church for the Sunday Holy Mass celebration. This Fifth Sunday of Lent is the last of the Lenten Season after which will come Palm Sunday and the Holy Week. The Gospel story of this week celebration shows us how compassionate and merciful our Lord Jesus Christ was in dealing with sinners. What Jesus said to the sinful woman, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on, do not sin anymore” is also what God the Father would say to us every time we go back to Him asking for forgiveness.
We pray hard in this Holy Mass for the grace of repentance of our sins and of going back to God, our loving and forgiving Father.
Kindly all stand for the entrance hymn.

b) To the Readings

- First Reading: Is 43:16-21
The Prophet Isaiah urges the people of Israel to loudly announce praises to the Lord God when remembering many blessings which He has done out of His exceptional love for them.

- Second Reading: Phil 3:8-14
Saint Paul was convinced that salvation should be found not in any human act of righteousness, but in our Lord Jesus alone in Whom we unfailingly put our faith, love and loyalty.

Psalm 126:1-2, 2-3, 4-5, 6

R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.
R. Việc Chúa làm cho ta, ôi vĩ đại! Ta thấy mình chan chứa một niềm vui.

When the LORD brought back the captives of Zion, we were like men dreaming. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with rejoicing. R.

Then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad indeed. R.

Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like the torrents in the southern desert. Those that sow in tears shall reap rejoicing. R.

Although they go forth weeping, carrying the seed to be sown, They shall come back rejoicing, carrying their sheaves. R.
Họ ra đi, đi mà nức nở, mang hạt giống vãi gieo; lúc trở về, về reo hớn hở, vai nặng gánh lúa vàng. R.
